Coach Boats:
With 38 sailors in regular attendance we are in need of more coach boats. If you have a whaler or inflatable you can loan us for even a week or two it would be a HUGE help. Please email me at bflack@amconet.com if you have something we can use.

Halloween Howl:
Last night’s notification had the wrong year for the Halloween Howl regatta in Newport (sorry still a bit fuzzy from my week in Newport). This is correct on the site now. Please please log in this week (http://www.mudratz.com/) and check off if your child’s status for attending this regatta (you can check yes, no, maybe), but we really need to know ASAP so we can follow up with more details and plan for coaches and costs. This is a two day Opti event in Newport and one day 420 event. A very good regatta with top new England competition.

Monday August 4 was a flurry of activity in Stonington and Weekapaug as the ECSA Mudratz packed up their boats and headed to Newport, RI for the 2014 US Optimist Dinghy Association New England Championship August 5-7.  16 Opti sailors and their boats, 4 coaches, 3 coach boats and a boat for parent spectators all made it on Monday.  Chris and Braedon Hansen were the advance team to secure a good location in the boat park.  A huge field at Fort Adams was covered by 419 Optis within a short dolly push to the beach for launching.  (more…)

The big trip for the MudRatz this summer will be the Opti New England’s in Newport, RI. The dates are August 4th to the 7th and the ECSA has cleared the junior schedule to avoid any conflicts for local regatta’s.

Team Info: The team will be limited and it’s on a first paid basis. We are accepting deposits to secure coaches via the snap web site for $50 on the payments tab (or email me if you are sending a check). We will open up spots to the rest of the ECSA one week from today.

Fee’s and Dates: July 16th is the early registration deadline. The registration fee is $140 and attached is the Official NOR. Your child also need to join the US Opti Class… this cost is $39. If we get 8 boats the coaching/crash boat fee for the event will be $100 (less $50 deposit), if fewer turnout we might need to adjust upwards.

Regatta Plan: Monday, August 4th… a six boat trailer will be at Wad and another at Niantic Bay for loading Opti’s onto. We will plan have the boats loaded up to leave for Newport at 11am. This will give us Monday afternoon for a light practice to get kids familiar with the racing area. We encourage parents and kids to stay in Newport for Mon, Tues & Weds night, but we will also provide rides home for kids who cannot stay. If you can only stay one night make it Wednesday night please… that will be the regatta/team party. We will have one coach on RWB and one coach on the GREEN circle. Thursday after racing we will pack up the boats and return to Wad and NBYC.

Please email me back with any questions. They expect about 300 boats at this event and Newport always knows how to show the kids a great time!

It’s time for sign-ups for the MudRatz!  Be sure to read down about the 420 MudRatz too!  Space is limited in both programs so please register quickly, our sign up deadline is Thursday, May 8^th.  If your child has sailed with us in the past you will receive first preference and you just need to log into the MudRatz.com site and go to your payments tab to pay to hold your spot.  The Opti team will be limited to the first 30 members to pay.

To register for the first time please email your child’s name, age, boat (Opti or 420) and sail number… he will send back an invite link for you to sign up completely.

Wow… our kids from last season had a remarkable summer of sailing.  We hope most of you plan to come back and learn some more this fall and spring.  As you are on the current roster you will recieve prefrence for our limited spaces on this falls team.  Please log into the TeamSnap site and go to your payments tab to pay and hold your spot.  The Opti team will be limited to the first 30 members to pay.

The new 420 team has no limits at this point.  Once sign up is done on August 23rd we will have more details about the schedule, coaches, and advice.

Hey All,

We are set for spring and looking forward to getting the kids out on the water for a little pre-season warm up before the summer programs kick in.

We are finalizing coaches right now, but Ram is the location for sure and the dates are posted on the availablity tab…. please, please, please go the site and check off what days you guess your child will be able attend this spring.  This is the ONLY way we can ensure we have enough coaches ready for your kids.

….The MudRatz!  Thanks to some generous donations by the Mudheads and the ECSA our little experement this fall is full steam ahead for this spring.

Just giving you a heads up that we plan to start around mid May and stick with the Sunday eve formats to keep off other spring sports.

Details will follow, but for now just email me back if your think your child will be interested or not in sailing with us again… and of course please spread the word!
