Sportboat Team INFORMATION

Welcome back to another season of MudRatz sailing!

This program is intended for the older sailors who want a bigger team and a faster boat.  Each season new sailors will be guaranteed five practices that will have a focus on learning various roles with coaching from other team members and outside experts.

We currently own two Melges 24’s, one Melges 20, one Melges 32, and a 49’er.

Any sailors wishing to later race with the Sportboat travel team must have completed at least five full practices (with a final evaluation completed by head coach) AND be registered members for the current season (spring, summer, or fall).  The kids who seem to most enjoy the program range in ages from 14 to 19.

The Sportboat team will be limited to the first 20 sailors who pay with preference given to past team members.

Details – Early Registration deadline is April 23rd (there is $50 late fee anytime after).

Time: 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm and/or 3:30 to 6:30 PM

What to expect and prepare your Sportboat sailors for next…

Our head coach will reach out to you to set up a work date to prep the boats for the season.  We will then confirm the practice times for the next few Saturdays and form teams for the Wednesday night races.

Boats, Gear, and Volunteers…

Please make sure kids are dressed for sailing (drysuits, smocks, gloves, boots, hats) as we sail in ALL weather, rain, wind, snow, and sun.  Please send each child with a snack and water-bottle as well.  Each season we see kids become limited by the clothes they have… dress your child for success… you would not send them onto the ball field without cleats!

Kids should be ready to sail BY the start of practice each day, we are not paying coaches to help rig, so please get the kids there early enough to be ready to sail on time.  Parents will be asked to help launch the kids and derig at the end while the kids have their post-practice chalk talks.

Please ask how you can help... we are a volunteer team and there is always something that needs to be done each week.  Thank you for being part of our team.  We really hope to create a good experience for all the kids!
