About All Day Option:  We intend to offer Early Clinics from 12-3pm on Sundays before normal full team practices.  These are meant to be for the more advanced sailors.  These kids are normally a bit older and can handle the attention required for 6 hours of practice in one day.  There is just one coach and drills will be mainly about repetition and improving on what has been learned in full team practices.  If you sign up for this option we will bill you another $150 via email once it is determined we have enough sailors for this to happen.

Please join the Mystic River MudHeads.

This organization strongly supports the MudRatz and our team would just not be possible without them.  Junior ($15) or family ($35) membership is requested.  Please sign up with this link.

What to expect and prepare you and your Opti sailor for next…

Please understand that our team is not a learn to sail group… we are a learn to race group.  Most kids start on our team after enjoying a season of racing at the Green fleet level.  During the first practice your child will be evaluated. If it seems they need more coaching to get up to speed with the group we may refer you to private lessons or suggest waiting a season.

If we have a large group we may split the kids into as many as three groups.  Championship, Racing, and the Developmental team.  We completely understand that less experienced kids learn TONS from sailing with the more experienced kids, so half the practice will be spent together scrimmaging and doing starts.  PLEASE let your kids know these assignments are NOT AT ALL permanent and we fully expect kids to move up from one level to the next as their abilities improve. Colored ribbons will be handed out at the end of the second week to identify the groups for our coaches.

Boats, Gear, and Volunteers…

We expect each sailor to bring their own Optis.  Storage space will be provided at the club , and you may drop off you boat the week before the first practice.

Please make sure kids are dressed for sailing (drysuits in the spring (wet suits at a minimum), smocks, gloves, boots, hats) as we sail in ALL weather, rain, wind, snow and sun.  Please send each child with a snack and water-bottle as well.  Each season we see kids become limited by the clothes they have… dress your child for success… you would not send them onto the ball field without cleats!

Kids should be rigged and ready to launch BY the start of practice day, we are not paying coaches to help rig, so please get the kids there early enough to be completely ready to sail at the start time of practice.  Parents will be asked to help launch the kids and derig at the end while coaches work with the kids at post practice chalk talks.

Please ask how you can help… we are a volunteer team and there is always something that needs to be done each week.  We really need loaned coach boats for this season… they can be left in the water if you have one you can bring over.

Thank you for being part of our team.  We really hope to create a good experience for all the kids!

MudRatz Mission statement: We are excited to introduce a series of 420 and Opti clinics for motivated junior sailors who want to develop and improve their sailing and racing skills. These clinics will provide a positive and fun environment where sailors will learn advanced techniques and strategies. Our goal is to supplement the sailing programs offered by the yacht clubs of the region, by enabling enthusiastic sailors to practice in the spring and fall, as well as travel as a team to regattas around the country.
