MudRatz Parents & Sailors,
This fall saw some explosive growth for our young team. To think just two seasons ago what started out on the water as a play group has now grown into a full blown team with over eight coaches, thirty Opti sailors, and ten 420 teams! Of course there have been some growing pains and lessons learned… the results of which were talked about extensively at our recent fall board meeting. Below are some exciting highlights about our teams direction as we move forward.
· The MudRatz are now a recognized 501(c)3 tax exempt organization! This will open the doors to more extensive fundraising to help our team progress! Stay tuned for information regarding a BIG spring fundraiser to take advantage of our new tax exempt status.
· Our team will re-focus more on the learn to race and championship level sailors. We will partner with NESS and Pettipaug YC to continue to offer learn to sail opportunities in the spring and fall seasons.
· We will begin to offer mini-clinics before each Sunday practice from noon till three. These clinics will be topic specific and available on a pay per event basis. Come to all of them or just the ones you want to. Bill Healy of Yale will be guest coaching a few of these!
· The MudRatz will host two full weekend clinics late this spring and summer. The focus will be on getting our travel team an advance work out with top coaches in preparation for the main summer events such as Opti New England’s and the 420 NBYRA Championships.
To pull all this off we welcome our newest volunteers! Susan as Fundraising event chair, Jay as 420 coordinator, Meg as opti coordinator, and Chris as coach boat coordinator…. If you would like to help out please raise your hand!
Next up is some winter sailing in warmer weather. If your child might be interested in attending the VALENTINE’S DAY REGATTA, at St. Petersburg Yacht Club in FL Feb 7-8th please mark those dates. There is a clinic planned for the two days before, lots of opti charter options, power boat charters nearby, and easy flights from around here… what a great break from ski season! More details to follow, but note the early entry deadline is Jan 22. More details here!
Thanks everyone… looking forward to great sailing ahead!
